Everything parents need to know โ from your baby's first tooth to your teenager's smile.
"They'll fall out anyway" โ this is the biggest myth in children's dentistry. Baby teeth are critically important:
Baby teeth allow children to chew properly, which is essential for proper nutrition and healthy development.
Teeth play a crucial role in speech development. Missing teeth affect pronunciation of many sounds.
Baby teeth hold the space for permanent teeth. When lost early, permanent teeth erupt crowded and misaligned.
Healthy teeth give children confidence to smile and speak without embarrassment.
Infection in baby teeth can damage the developing permanent tooth buds underneath.
Good dental habits formed in childhood last a lifetime. Early care builds healthy routines.
Teething typically begins around 6 months and can cause irritability, drooling, swollen gums, and disturbed sleep. Here's how to help:
We recommend the first dental visit by age 1 or within 6 months of the first tooth erupting. Here's what to expect:
We let your child explore the clinic, sit in the chair, and meet us at their own pace. No instruments until they're comfortable.
We check the gums, erupting teeth, bite development, and any concerns. Often done with the child on the parent's lap.
A gentle cleaning to remove plaque, followed by fluoride application if the child is ready.
We discuss brushing technique, diet, teething, and answer all your questions. You'll leave feeling confident about home care.
Morning and before bed, every day. Bedtime brushing is the most important โ saliva production decreases at night, leaving teeth vulnerable.
Cavities often form between teeth where brushes can't reach. Start flossing when two teeth touch โ typically around age 2โ3.
Limit sugary snacks and drinks. Especially avoid sticky sweets (toffees, raisins) which cling to teeth. See our Diet Consultation page.
Every 6 months. We catch early decay before it becomes a big problem, and apply professional fluoride and sealants.
Professional fluoride application and pit & fissure sealants provide powerful protection between home care sessions.
Thumb sucking is a natural infant reflex. Most children stop on their own by ages 2โ4. However, continued thumb sucking after age 5 (especially vigorously) can affect jaw development and tooth alignment.
We offer habit-breaking appliances that gently remind children to stop without punishment. These are very effective and comfortable. Tongue thrusting and mouth breathing should also be evaluated โ both can affect facial development.
Time is critical โ you have 30โ60 minutes. Handle only by the crown (not the root). Rinse gently with milk or saline. Try to reinsert into socket. If not possible, keep in milk. Rush to our clinic immediately. Call 9768958636.
Do NOT reinsert baby teeth โ this can damage the permanent tooth bud. Clean the area gently, apply gentle pressure if bleeding, and bring your child in for an assessment. We'll check the underlying permanent tooth is undamaged.
Rinse with warm salt water. If the cheek is visibly swollen or there's fever, treat as urgent and call us immediately. Never place aspirin directly on the tooth โ this can burn gum tissue.
Apply gentle pressure with a clean cloth. Most minor bites stop bleeding in 10โ15 minutes. If bleeding doesn't stop or the cut is deep, seek medical attention.
When to expect each tooth โ these are approximate ages and can vary by several months normally.
